Recreating Good Drum Sounds

Hi, what's the best method for recreating good drum sounds? I want my drums
to sound like they are from the 60's or 70's - I.e. proper drums, and not
techno or anything like that.
Obviously the best method is to mic up a real drum kit, but I don't have the
space or talent to play the drums myself, so I'm after some piece of
software or other equipment that would do the job.
Presumably there's a plugin for Cubase somewhere that will 'play' the drums
for you through certain standard drum patterns, or patterns you can create
yourself. What is the best software available for this kind of thing?
Where can I get some really decent sounding drum samples for the software?
and will the software sound like a 'real' drummer - e.g. will it play
slightly 'off' sometimes so that the drumming isn't too clinical.
Thanks for any tips.

Hi,
I´m working with Steinbergs Groove Agent (search the web). It´s available in version 2. It´s easy to handle with any midi-controller and sounds very natural. You can choose different styles and drumkits from early 50´s to modern sounds.

This is the drum tool to create classic drumtracks. Follow the lead of some of the greatest producers in the world and make it your choice to work with the best drumsimulator ever created.
You don't need a human drummer - you need three plugins: "Superior Drummer", Superior Percussionist" & "Superior Cocktail".

What in detail do you mean with the sound of the early 50tees? Is it that, what early condensors were able to capture?

No, I think it's more the style of playing & tuning - then producing,
at least the mikrophone-sound.
You would get that sound with every modern gear (and some Highcut)
if it is still existing.
