The big problem with this MOTU 1296 unit is its inability to handle digital tranfers or +4 dB analog transfers without overloading the inputs to the 1296. This one fact makes it almost useless for my needs. I have directly plugged standard CD players and DAT machines to it in both analog and digital formats only to get distortion at the input stage every time. MOTU has no answer to this, even though their ad touts its ability to do so (presumably without distortion) Others I have spoken to have identical complaints. The Price is high at about 500 Euro.
500 ? is fine for what you get. .. you say, that it can´t handle +4dbu? .. it only handles +4 .. my console does +6 which is still fine. what it doesn´t support is -10dbu which is the nominal level of a standard cd player. What DAT machine did you use? also.. I ´ve never seen a standard cd player with an aes/ebu output? when you´ve used the spd/if, you have to know that this can work, but doesn´t have to. I already have one 1296 and it works fine. Cheers
